Day 110

As you all know (if you've paid any attention to what I write) I work as a barback at Llywelyns Pub. what you may not know is that when you work behind a bar, you (and you're clothes) get filthy.

Well I was sick of wearing nice jeans along with my free t-shirts, so I decided to get some cheap jeans. I was at Wal-Mart the other day to get a gift for my niece Annie's 1st birthday (and something for Lydia,2 and Ahren, 3, since I am a good uncle). I looked through the mens clothing to see what they might have in the way of some cheap jeans.

To what did my wandering eyes appear? $8 jeans. For real. I don't even care how well they fit or look, its just for work after all. $8. I gotta go get another pair.

So cheap jeans are todays awesomosity. There's a picture of them along with me dreading my upcoming 14 hour shift and the 700+ person pub crawl coming through later.

TASK O' THE DAY: Find a good deal on some clothes, then let me know about it.

Enjoy your Saturday, because at least someone should!

Day 109

I still can't believe I have done this for 109 straight days. I'm nuts. I hope you are all enjoying this at least.

As a few of you may have put together, I went to the Blues game last night (I did tell you that I love the Blues, right? And that I would go to a bunch of games? And that they would all probably lead to some form of awesomosity, right?) Well, last night's game was totally awesome.

I'll start at the beginning. First, God created Adam, then Eve. Then a whole bunch of other stuff happened and it was my brother's birthday at the end of September. I am a huge fan of giving gifts that involve time and relationship, not just "stuff". So, I got us some Blues tickets. (I think I may have mentioned that before, right? That I went on StubHub and whatnot?) Anywho, we went to the game (my brother and I). It was awesome. But not the awesome of the day, that is just a direct result of how awesome the game was.

Some of you may be familiar with possibly the best promotion in professional sports history. Tacos for 35 cents at Taco Bell when the Blues score 5 (limit 20 per visit, hard-shell only). Why was this awesome? Because when the Blues had 4 goals, the entire crowd would start chanting, "We Want Ta-Cos!" It was spectacular. Then, after the lockout, Taco Bell stopped the promotion. The chant lived on. The new owners group liked the chant, figured out what it was all about and came up with their version of a solution. Now, on the old promotion, everyone got tacos for 35 cents the next day. In the new promotion, only people with tickets from last nights game got tacos. And only 1 for free, additional were $.99. And only at Scottrade Center (or as some guys at the best hockey magazine ever call it, DrinkScotch Center). The problem from Taco Bell's perspective is that they were losing employees left and right. Imagine working at a Taco Bell, knowing that the drive-thru line would be 10 cars deep open to close. All wanting tacos. I'd quit too.

So, the Blues management realized how lame their free taco giveaway was and created a new one. When the Blues score 5 or more goals, everyone in attendance gets a coupon for a free 12 oz. Blizzard from Dairy Queen. That is totally awesome. I'm not exactly sure what people are going to chant come 4 goals in a game time, but I'm sure there are some really creative Blues fans out there.

So, I would be going to DQ later today, but my brother is hanging out with his children (and no mommy) later today and wanted to take them to DQ, so we found an extra coupon and I gave him mine so he could take the kids. It's ok, I am sure I will be at another game where we score 5 or more. Heck, the two games I have been to this year (one was preseason, but I don't care) we have outscored opponents 13-4. Awesome. Also, when I wear my home game jersey this year, we are 3-0. My away game jersey is 0-1. I'll keep you posted, especially when I try my older jersey with red on it and my practice jersey. I pay attention to these things. Say what you want.

Task o' The Day: Eat some Ice Cream. Preferably from DQ (support Blues supporters and all that), however, Ted Drewes is acceptable.

Here is my picture taken while driving in today with my collar totally popped. Awesome.

Thanks for reading, watch the Blues kick the krap out of the Blackhawks tomorrow night!

Day 108

Last night I didn't sleep much. Mostly because my friend was playing a concert that I wanted to see. So, after I did what I had to do, I headed on over to Pops Nightclub, where I saw the last 2 1/2 songs by Goldtooth and the first 3 songs from The Bakerton Group, and totally missed another friend's band, Devil's in the Jukebox (great name, and I did buy one of their CD's, it rocks). The other thing I found at Pop's? Today's awesomosity.

First of all, even though I don't drink anymore, I (and I think you) have to appreciate a place you can buy a drink anytime day or night of any day. That's right, in case you didn't know already, Pop's is a 24/7 bar. And yes, on weekends (and maybe weekdays, who knows?) they have live music at all hours of the night.

You see, I have been to Pop's twice. The first time was after a long night of work at Llywelyn's and all the ladies were going out. And really, who am I to let a bunch of pretty ladies go have fun without any protection from a big strong man like myself? So, we get to Pop's around 3:30am and stay until maybe 5am. There was a band playing the whole time. Since I don't drink or dance, I was relegated to "designated purse watcher", a role I also filled a little last night.

But, all in all, Pop's is an awesome place. Not because they are open 24/7, or they don't have any glass in the bar (plastic cups and aluminum bottles) but mostly because it is a sweet concert venue. I mean, anywhere that has had the likes of Flock of Seagulls to Night Ranger to George Clinton to Corey Feldman to Slipknot to a bunch of other bands perform there must be awesome. Plus, they've always got a bunch of local bands playing there.

Here is a picture I took last night of the Bakerton Group (who were w pretty sweet iunstrumental band).

Here is my all-dresesed-up-for-a-business-meeting-this-morning picture of the day.

Thanks for reading, see you tomorrow!

Day 107

Today's awesomosity comes from a few weeks ago, when my good friend Joe posted this on his Tumblr site:

I thought that was awesome. What I wanted to do, and haven't had the time to since, was to do a little more investigating into Benny Hinn to see what his and his ministry is all about.

From his official website, I found a few things. First, under the "salvation" tab, they have some good solid information, backed up by Bible verses. I have to say that I was impressed.

On the downside, I was not impressed with most of the rest of his site. Oh, it looks good, and is well layed out, but the content leaves something to be desired. Benny has undergone some pretty serious scrutiny from the IRS, who wanted to look into the profits he was making as a non-profit organization. The IRS was satisfied with the level of cooperation and gave him a green light. But the IRS is strictly a numbers organization, and has nothing to do with morals and ethics. I was really not impressed by the "financial accountability" section of his site under the "about us" tab. It seems like he is saying a lot and is very revealing, but he is not at all.

It was very easy to find a bunch of "hater" sites that are on the other side of what Benny does. The most reputable looking site was at Ministry Watch. Here is what they say about him. Doesn't look so good. Before you write it off as just another website saying bad stuff, I did look up a few other ministries I am aware of and they gave grades that seem to actually reflect the ministry. So, without looking too much into Ministry Watch, it seems reputable to me.

Now, here are two websites that seem to be on the far end against Benny and what he does.

False Prophet - this seems somewhat reputable, but who knows.

Rick Cross - He has a whole page devoted to Benny, I really liked the third article, titled "God, Power, and Money". It seems some guys were out to get Benny and wrote about their experience. Interesting. The site as a whole seems interesting, they seem to be devoted to discovering what cults and other sketchy stuff is all about. So, if you think you may be in a cult, check it all out at this site.

Ok, so that's what I found in a brief search into Benny Hinn. But I can't leave without showing you one of the video responses on YouTube to the first video I showed. This one is more for the hip hop fans than rock fans. Enjoy:

Task o' The Day: Has nothing to do with the awesomosity today. No one ever said that it had to, right? So, go get a cup of coffee with a friend this week. It can be someone you have know for a long time, someone you are trying to get to know, someone you need to confess or apologize to, someone you need to mend the relationship with. Anything. And it doesn't have to be coffee, but it has to be a social gathering of two people for the purpose of furthering the relationship somehow. See you tonight, Joe.

Here is my picture, and no I wasn't peeing in this one.

See you manana!

Day 106

I have taken a fascination with AM radio recently. I have started enjoying sports radio much more. There is a lot of funny stuff that happens. In fact, when they get too serious about it is generally when I turn it off.

The best radio talk shows in history are tied between the Dan Patrick show (which I can't find in Saint Louis anymore) and the Tony Kornheiser show (which has been permanently canceled). They were both fun and put sports in the proper perspective, which is as entertainment.

Here is a video which I heard about on the radio today and is the awesomosity for the day. Pay special attention to the caller, who will talk about the Clemson football program and the recent decision to part ways with the now former coach, Tommy Bowden.

I love college football. No, really. I have started enjoying more in recent years. These guys are really playing for something besides money, which always makes things better. But that fan is just a little too serious.

Task o' The Day: Comment with either: a) your favorite sports team, college or pro and why, or b) your favorite radio program, talk, sports, music, whatever and why.

Now, here is today's picture, which looks like any other picture I've taken, but is in actuality very awesome in itself. Why? Because I'm peeing while this picture is being taken. Another advantage to being a man, the world is my bathroom. Don't comment on how this is too much information, I know it is.

Thanks for reading, see you tomorrow!

Day 105

Today, the awesomosity is pretty obvious. It's Columbus Day! Hooray!

So what does Columbus day mean to Americans (because it doesn't mean much to the rest of the world certainly.)? It means we don't get mail and we can't go to the bank. I am fairly certain schools are in today. But I love getting mail (e or snail) and I have a deposit to make at the bank. So, Mr. Columbus, boo you. I'm kind of kidding. Only kind of because Columbus wasn't the first to discover America, he didn't actually land in America, and he thought he was in India. Seriously.

I did want to take a minute and talk about holidays. Because Holidays are the awesomosity for today. I have come up with a few things that are somewhat interesting (of course depending on your definition of interesting). First, I found a website that lists every major holiday in the world up until 2050 (which seems a waste of time since the Aztec calendar thinks the world will end in 2012). But it is an interesting, although hard to navigate, website. Check it out here.

Then I thought I would look into some more obscure holidays and I found this website. It lists all kinds of obscure holidays. My favorite for the month of October is Wear Something Gaudy Day, which is this Friday! It found its roots in the 70s TV show Three's Company. There are a lot of really awesome holidays listed here, and you can totally make up your own!

Lastly, if you want to really celebrate Columbus Day, here are a few activities you can do (mostly made for children, but were all really kids at heart, right?).

Task(s) o' The Day(s): I have to make them all plural because I totally neglected to let you know how to be more awesome all weekend. Though I think they were fairly obvious. Saturday (Junky Car Club), join the JCC. If you don't qualify, then sell your nice car and get a beater. I didn't say they would be simple and easy tasks, just ways to be more awesome. Sunday (Gchat), get a gmail account. Or at least get Google Talk. Once you have either and/or both, send me an instant message using it. It'll be totally awesome.

Today, I'm going to give you two choices. One, find you favorite obscure holiday in the next month and celebrate it with vigour. Let me know so I can join in your celebration. The second, slightly more difficult task would be to create your own holiday (you can do that here, but you'll have to wait until May 1st for Make your own holiday day!). Definitely let us all know so we can kick of the inaguraul celebration of your day with serious enthusiasm!

I was lazy with my picture today, but here it is:

Thanks for checking me out! See you in the morning!

Day 104

Today's awesomeness comes from a few days ago when I was having a quick conversation with my friend Sean. Now, by conversation, I do not mean we were actually talking to each other. And we weren't emailing back and forth. And we weren't communicating telepathically (though that would totally be the awesomosity if it were possible). No, we were "chatting".

Some of you are all too familiar with chatting. I am not talking about hanging out with someone and chatting about the weather or something. I am talking about using the internet to chat. Now, just to be clear, I am not a fan of chat rooms. Mostly because I am not 15.

To be specific, I am making today's awesomosity GChat. It comes integrated with Gmail. If you don't have Gmail, stop reading right now and sign up. Seriously. You will never regret it, no matter what email client you are currently using. You don't even have to stop using your current email. Do it now.

So, if you don't want to switch, you can still use Google's chat program, it's called Google Talk. I have never been a fan of instant messaging, but Google makes it very easy and totally useful. I highly recommend it.

Ok, I'm going to go to my house now and watch some football and maybe snooze for a minute before work.

Here is a picture I snapped earlier when I should have already been at church, but still hadn't left my house. I apparently turned off my alarm clock when I meant to snooze it. Oh well, I still made it, just a minute or two late.

Enjoy the day!
