Day 69

Makes me think of Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure, when they are standing outside the Circle K and ask what number they are thinking of. "69, dude! Whoa, you really are us!"

I attended a wedding today for my good friends Mark and Kristy Patterson (nee Hager). They are both pretty good friends of mine from church and great people. They go really well together and compliment each other and all that. Great stuff. Nothing quite like going to a wedding you know will work out, eh?

So, weddings are awesome. At this particular wedding, there were several things I liked. One, is that the wedding party was huge. There must have been at least 7 people standing on each side, and that doesn't include the ushers. I think this is awesome because I know I'm gonna have a ton of people standing for my wedding (if it ever happens :(, don't worry it'll happen some day) Here is a picture of the party all standing up front.

Another awesome thing about this (not that the whole thing wasn't awesome, it was, like I said, it's great when two great people get married) was the tux that Mark chose. Simple, black, elegant (did I just use elegant to describe a man's dress? I think I did). I'm a big fan of plain and simple. The bridesmaids all wore the same dress in different colors, and everything looked great. Here is a picture of the smaller wedding party (sorry its blurry, camera phone's suck).

So, today weddings are awesome. A side awesomosity was that I ran the sound for the wedding, so that made me $100. Can't complain about that a bit. Also, the reception is at 3:30, great time. And were having breakfast I hear. Awesome.

Have a great day everyone, thanks for reading, see you tomorrrow (in the cyber-world sense)!

Oh, the picture. I was gonna take a picture of myself during the wedding, but I thought that was a little tacky, so its just in the office, but I do look rather spiffy, eh?

Day 68

Today's awesomosity comes from some friends of mine. First up, Aaron Thorne. On Aaron's blog today was a post about the newly named republican vice-presidential nominee Sarah Palin. Admittedly, few people know very much about her, but Aaron got straight to the heart of the matter. He found some hard core facts about her. You may be a little surprised when you read some of these. It will probably affect my vote, though I'm not sure which way. Just read the facts already:

Sarah Palin facts

The next of this dual awesomosity day comes from my friend Kim Underwood (the new afternoon DJ on JoyFM, by the way) and it came to her from a friend I also know, Carin Schindler. This may be the most ridiculous song I know, but I won't be able to get it out of my head, of that I'm sure. I am also very aware of my friendship with Jesus now. Enjoy.

I especially love the bass solo and the 3rd verse. Did he say Jesus would zap you? I think he did. Fan-freakin-tastic, that is.

Here's the pic, do I look like I'm sailing the high seas?

Day 67

With the weather being as absolutely awesome as it is today (it's pouring here, if you didn't know) I thought I would take a minute and point out an awesome outdoor game.

Sholf. (Wikipedia) You've all you've all heard of golf and frolf, but sholf? Probably not. How about curling? Shuffleboard? Maybe? Well, sholf is a combination of golf and shuffleboard. Basically, you have a putting green. On either end of said green is a scoring system similar to shuffleboard. There are lines declaring different point values for where the ball comes to rest.

The two teams takes turns putting balls, blocking their own, knocking off the other teams. It sounds like a heck of a lot of fun if you ask me. And I am sure it would be a great way to at least work on the speed, if not accuracy, of your putting skills. Something I know probably every golfer needs to work on.

I know its kind of short and sweet today, but seriously check out sholf. If you end up with a sholf court, totally invite me over, I would love to play!

Here is the picture, trying to prove just how rainy it is today.

Day 66

Today's awesomosity comes from an experience I didn't have this morning. Wait, what? An experience you didn't have, you say? I'll tell you more.

I was supposed to meet a business associate at 7:30 this morning. When I woke up, my alarm clock said 8:40. Oops. Well, why didn't it go off? Because I forgot to set it, but thats beside the point, the point is alarm clocks are awesome. I know what you're thinking (I'm really advancing in my telepathy classes), you're thinking, "Ben, I hate my alarm clock. It disrupts my beautiful, wonderful, comfortable sleep every morning." Well, just try to imagine life without it. It'd be like we lived in Europe or something, just showing up to stuff whenever we got there. Oh, wait, thats how I roll anyway.

Sometimes I do like to be on time and show up when and where I have told people I will be. For that I rely on my alarm clock. I have a decent alarm clock, it has the snooze button for feet, so it is designed to be randomly slapped to set the snooze feature. That is pretty good, but here are a few alarm clock I may consider upgrading to.

Throwable alarm clocks. You have your choice of several sports balls, and they snooze ny hitting a wall on the other side of the room. So when it goes off, you throw it. The second time it goes off, you have to get up and get it. Then you're up. Not a bad idea for under $20.

Dumbell alarm clock. You may think this alarm clock insults you so that you are so offended you have to get up, but no. It is actually in the shape of a dumbell and you have to do 30 reps to shut it off. That should get the old blood flowing enough to wake you up.

The flying alarm clock. This is similar to the throwable clock, but slightly different. This actually has a propeller on top that flies off to who knows where. To shut off the clock, you have to put the propeller back on the clock. I hope it doesn't break, that would suck.

Perhaps my favorite I ran across, even though it is in the concept phase. An alarm clock that syncs to your phone. After three minutes, it starts randomly dialing numbers in your phone, perhaps with a prerecorded message that you may not want your mother to hear at 6am. HA! That would get me up.

Of course, if you really despise alarm clocks, you can try to train yourself to wake up without one. I know several people that do this, but it requires a somewhat regular schedule, which I will probably never have.

Make sure to vote and click on ads, I'm up to $14.50 or so in ad revenue, but I don't see a dime until I hit $100, so keep it up.

Day 65

So, I ended up wearing one of the few funny/catchy shirts that I own today. It is a shirt that says, "Brave enough to live in America's most dangerous city." Then it lists the top 5 cities on the back and says, "Kickin' Detroit's [booty] in baseball and crime" Ed. note. It doesn't say booty, but kids may read this blog. I got this shirt while I was working at Llywelyn's one night. I was wearing a Jagermeister T-shirt that I got from the Jager girls (who will be back next weekend if you want one). Anyway, I have several of these shirts. One of our customers (a regular) asked if I wanted to give her the shirt. I said no. She offered me her turtleneck as a trade (it was cold out). I said no. She offered me this shirt. I said yes.

This is one way to get some awesome shirts, but I doubt it will work very well in the long run. I like to look up t-shirt sites and read what they are coming up with. Some of them are very creative. I haven't seen one that I really love yet, but here are a few of my favorite sites.

CultClassicTs.com is a good, traditional t-shirt site that is organized quite well. They have all kinds of shirts and they arrange them nicely. You can search for a shirt by movie (you can get a "Mitchapalooza" shirt from "Old School") category, or just randomly look through them. Pretty funny stuff.

While I was looking for some good sites, I cam across this one, which is more of a prank site. It's called prankplace.com. They have some decent t-shirts, but they also have good bumper stickers, fake lottery tickets, and all other kinds of gags. One of the pages they have includes secret stash safes. That is where I found this little gem:

Yes, Security Briefs. They even have a "skid mark" to keep people from touching them. Why wouldn't you store all your valuables in this then leave it laying on the floor?

My favorite, and therefore the awesomosity for today is TorsoPants.com. Don't call them shirts, they are pants for your torso. They are the most creative and different shirts I have found on the net. In fact, according to their FAQ's, under "Side Effects", this is written:

WHAT ARE THE POTENTIAL SIDE-EFFECTS OF TORSOPANTS?

High risk of an overdose of awesomeness.

You could overdose on awesomeness!!

So, enjoy some torso pants today, and make a stranger smile just by the shirt you are wearing!

The picture of the day today was taken on an inspection earlier, enjoy!

By the way, Joe and Jim are tied for awesomeness, according to the latest poll, at 2 each. I have a new poll up now, so vote.

Thanks everyone! See you tomorrow!

Day 64

Will you still feed me?

Today is a special day. Today is my first day of training at Llywelyns. What!?!? You say? Allow me to explain.

You see, I want to bartend. Its pretty good money, at least it can be. So the GM wanted me to train as a server before I start picking up shifts. I picked today for one of my 3 trainings because I figured it would be slow and I wouldn't have to take off my day job.

I didn't have to take off the day job, but was quite wrong about it being slow. I guess normally lunch at Lly is packed from 1130 - 1, then dead. Today was pretty steady from 1130 - 3.

The good news is that I learned a lot and did a pretty good job. The big key to serving is to know the menu (including wines and drinks) inside and out. Not quite there just yet, but I'm only done with 1 day, eh?

Therefore todays awesomeness belongs to the staff at Llywelyns, represented in the picture by Tori on the left and Theresa on the right. They trained me today.

Its been a good day so far, now its off to pretend like I know what I'm doing at a fantasy football draft.

Thanks for reading, have a spectacular day!

Day 63

Today's awesomeness is more about what is to come tomorrow than what is happening today. And that is because I am preparing today for what happens tomorrow. So, what happens tomorrow? My fantasy football draft.

I have never done fantasy football before, but I did try fantasy hockey for the first time last year, along with fantasy baseball this summer. Dead last. In both leagues. Ooph.

But I am quite hopeful I will have a good fantasy football year. I got a printed guide from Gabe earlier today and have printed off a ton of stuff to help me analyze my draft.

This whole obsession with fantasy sports is quite ludicrous in my mind. While I am trying to find good free information (like I'm gonna pay for any of this krap), it is simply amazing to me that so much information is out there. I know (in the 6 degrees type of "know") several people whose whole job revolves around fantasy sports. Seriously.

Take for instance Googling "fantasy football", you get about 71,000,000 results. 71 Million! Just for comparison, I Googled "Glue" to see how many results I got. 36,100,000. Ok, so maybe there are just too many web pages in general.

When looking through the "Glue" results, the 2nd one was for this site, call This to That. Great site. Do you need to glue something and aren't sure what to use? Check it out. You pick the two substrates you want to put together, they give you several options and tips for gluing(sp?) them. Awesome.

So, go play some fantasy football!

Here is the picture of me deep in thought over what fantastic sports website to rely on for my fantasy draft.
